4 Tips for Crafting Better Emails
Since the invention of personal email addresses, emails have been a primary form of communication for businesses and individuals around the world. Unfortunately, the emails that many people send are never read or replied to because they have been poorly crafted.
Today, we’re going to give you 5 easy tips that you can use to ensure that every email you send is read, replied to, and understood.
4 Email Crafting Tips
1. Utilize your subject line.
Email subject lines are the first things that recipients notice about emails. If you have a detailed, but to-the-point subject line that summarizes the reason behind your email, you’re one step closer to getting a reply. Often, if your recipient isn’t aware that you’re sending an email and you don’t include a subject line, they’ll overlook your email altogether because surely an important email would have a subject line, right?
2. Make sure that the first sentence is the best sentence.
It takes approximately seconds for a recipient to decide whether they’re going to read the entirety of an email. If your email is important, you want to be sure that the entire thing is read and understood. So, be sure that your first sentence is strong and captures your recipient’s attention.
3. Keep it short.
No one wants to read a novel of an email. Keep this in mind when writing out your emails. Try to aim for a few sentences to a paragraph max and don’t be afraid to use bullet points to get your information across in a concise, easy-to-read manner.
If your emails are too long, your recipient is going to either skim the document or skip parts of it, which, of course, is something you want to avoid happening.
4. Don’t over-embellish.
It can be tempting to try and make your email more memorable by using funky fonts, bright colors, tons of emojis, and underlines — but don’t do it. This is classified as over-embellishing, which can actually do more harm than good as it overwhelms whoever is trying to read your email. It can also make your email look unprofessional.
With any luck, you’ll now be able to craft effective emails without a second thought. Just remember to use a good headline, avoid over-embellishing, keep things short and sweet, and take time to ensure that your first sentence is the best one.
